As Athenry continues to develop, Uisce Éireann is committed to providing the water and wastewater infrastructure necessary to support growth.
As part of that commitment, we are embarking on a programme of essential upgrades to the town’s public wastewater network at Raheen over the coming weeks.
This project will deliver a 500-metre sewer main extension and new service connections, helping to strengthen the public wastewater network for existing and future residential and commercial developments in the Galway town.
Sinead Kennedy, Uisce Éireann Programme Manager, said: “These works will provide an improved wastewater service for homes and businesses in the Raheen area of Athenry.
“The sewer main extension and associated new connections will allow more customers to be connected to the public wastewater network, providing a more reliable wastewater service for customers while also safeguarding the local environment.”
In order for these works to be carried out safely, a road closure license has been granted by Galway County Council. The L3101 road will be closed for a period of six weeks between the Gort Mhaoilir junction and the Raheen roundabout.
A signed diversion route will be in place for the period of the road closure. Traffic will be diverted via Ballydavid South, the L3105, and Gort Mhaoilir.
“We want to thank the local community and road-users in advance for their understanding while works are underway,” Sinead continued. “We appreciate that road closures can be an inconvenience but, in this case, it is essential to ensure that works are carried out as safely and efficiently as possible for our crews, road-users and the general public.”
These works are being carried out by Farrans Construction on behalf of Uisce Éireann. Works are due to begin this week and will take approximately 10 weeks in total to complete.
