Boil Water Notice issued for customers supplied by Ardoughter Tower Reservoir in Listowel

Uisce Éireann has issued a Boil Water Notice for customers supplied by the Ardoughter Tower Reservoir on the Listowel Public Water Supply.

This notice is being issued to protect the health of approximately 1,369 customers supplied by Ardoughter Tower Reservoir due to issues with the disinfection process. 

The affected area includes the eastern section of the Clanmaurice Group Water Scheme between Causeway and Ballyduff, as well as the Dale Road public district metered area located to the south-east of Causeway.

Customers affected by this notice are advised to boil water before drinking, preparing food, brushing teeth, making ice and washing salads or other foods that are not cooked prior to consumption.

The notice applies only to customers supplied by the Ardoughter Tower Reservoir on the Listowel Public Water Supply and not the entire supply.

Uisce Éireann crews will carry out essential works at the reservoir overnight tonight, which will result in a temporary interruption to water supply for customers. Water supply is expected to be restored on Wednesday morning. When supply returns, customers should continue to boil water before drinking, preparing food, brushing teeth or making ice until further notice, as the Boil Water Notice remains in effect.

Customers can check if their property is affected by visiting the Water Quality Section of water.ie and entering their Eircode or by contacting Uisce Éireann’s customer care team, available 24/7, on 1800 278 278.

Drinking water experts from Uisce Éireann are working to lift the notice as quickly and safely as possible, in consultation with the Health Service Executive.

Providing an update, Uisce Éireann’s Eoin O’Connell, explained: "We know how important a safe and reliable water supply is to everyday life and we understand the inconvenience this notice will cause our impacted customers. Protecting public health is always our top priority.  Our teams are on the ground doing everything possible to resolve the issue and restore normal water quality as quickly as possible. We would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation while this notice is in place.”

Customers are reminded that water is safe to consume once it has been boiled and cooled.

Water must be boiled for:
•    Drinking
•    Preparing drinks made with water
•    Preparing salads and foods that are not cooked before eating
•    Brushing teeth
•    Making ice

What customers should do:
•    Boil water by bringing it to a vigorous rolling boil and allow it to cool before use.
•    Use boiled water when washing food that will not be cooked, such as salads.
•    Water can still be used for washing, bathing and flushing toilets, but should not be used for brushing teeth or gargling.
•    Domestic water filters will not make water safe to drink.
•    Extra care should be taken when bathing children to ensure they do not swallow water.
•    Great care should be taken when handling boiled water to avoid burns and scalds.
