Crews repairing major burst on the Farranfore to Killarney Road

Uisce Éireann is working to restore normal water supply following a large burst on a rising main early this morning on the Farranfore to Killarney Road (N22). Repair crews were immediately mobilised and began work on the complex burst at Knockduff and crews expect that repair works will continue until 8pm tonight.

To ensure the safety of the crews carrying out the repairs to the burst and the safety of the public, traffic management will be in place and will be clearly signposted on the N22 between Farranfore and Killarney. Motorists may wish to consider an alternative route via the N70 and N72 through Farranfore, Castlemaine and Fossa, where practical.  This is an advisory recommendation while repair works are ongoing. Customers in Castleisland and Tralee may experience a disruption to their supply or loss of pressure.  

Typically, it takes three to four hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges. Uisce Éireann's Eoin O’Connell said that every effort is being made to return a full and reliable water supply as quickly as possible. 

“We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned outage, and we thank customers for their support while our works continue,” said Eoin.
