Kinlough Water Outage: Supply returning to customers as water treatment plant back in operation

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Water supply is returning to customers in Kinlough and Tullaghan following the restoration of operations at Glenade Water Treatment Plant.

The majority of customers should now have their water supply restored after an earlier operational issue resulted in a temporary shutdown of the plant and interrupted water production for customers on the Kinlough-Tullaghan Public Water Supply.

An increase in raw water turbidity following heavy rainfall overnight inhibited plant operations as a safety precaution to safeguard public health.

Uisce Éireann crews worked to restore operations at the plant as quickly and safely as possible and water production has now resumed.

As the network continues to refill, some customers, particularly those in higher-lying areas and at the end of the network, may experience a delay before normal water pressure and supply levels are fully restored

Kevin Love, Water Treatment Operations Manager at Uisce Éireann, said: “We are pleased to confirm that the plant is back in operation and water production has resumed for customers on the Kinlough-Tullaghan Public Water Supply. Water supplies are now returning to homes and businesses across the area.

“However, as the network refills, it may take a number of hours for normal water pressure and supply to be fully restored to all customers, especially those in elevated areas and at the end of the network. We appreciate the support of the local community and apologise for the inconvenience caused by this unplanned disruption.”

Supporting customers, especially those who may be more vulnerable during service interruptions, remains a priority. Registered vulnerable customers receive direct communications from Uisce Éireann for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.

Previous Updates

Customers and businesses in Kinlough and Tullaghan may be experiencing disruptions to their water supply this morning following an operational issue at Glenade Water Treatment Plant which has resulted in a plant shutdown.

Our crews are making every effort to restore normal service at the plant as quickly and safely as possible.

Kevin Love, Water Treatment Operations Manager at Uisce Éireann, said: "We understand how inconvenient an unexpected water outage can be. Our crews are working to restore supply following a deterioration in raw water quality in the source water, which triggered an automatic shutdown at the treatment plant. This has interrupted water production for customers on the Kinlough–Tullaghan Public Water Supply. We really appreciate everyone in the community bearing with us while our crews get water back to homes and businesses.

“We expect that the plant will resume normal water production later this morning and water supplies will return gradually to customers over the following hours. Customers in higher-lying areas or at the ends of the network may experience a longer wait while the water network refills,” he explained.

Following power supply interruptions earlier this week, reservoir levels remain low across the water supply area. While power has been restored, it will take time for reservoirs to fully replenish. Therefore, we are appealing to customers to help conserve water during this period by reducing non-essential water use. We also encourage anyone who notices a leak to report it online or to 1800 278 278 so that repairs can be prioritised. These simple actions will help support water supplies while the network recovers and reservoir levels return to normal.

Supporting customers, especially those who may be more vulnerable during service interruptions, remains a priority. Registered vulnerable customers receive direct communications from Uisce Éireann for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.
