Sligo town residents to benefit from water network improvements

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Residents in Emmet Place in Sligo town are set to benefit from a more reliable water supply with Uisce Éireann network improvement works getting underway next week. The project will involve the replacement of ageing backyard water mains and service connections, helping to reduce leakage, improve water quality and strengthen the local water network.

In many older housing estates, water connections were installed to the rear of properties. Due to their age and condition, they can become a significant source of leakage and reduced levels of service.

Backyard services are typically shared by a number of neighbouring properties, making leaks and bursts difficult to detect and repair. When issues occur, they can affect multiple households, often resulting in low water pressure and supply interruptions.

The works at Emmet Place will involve the decommissioning of ageing backyard water mains and the installation of approximately 100 metres of new water mains along the public road. Once complete, customers will benefit from a more secure and resilient water supply network.

Uisce Éireann’s Programme Manager, Patricia Lowry, is looking forward to getting this important project underway: "Replacing ageing backyard water mains is an important part of our ongoing work to improve water services for communities across Ireland. By installing new water mains and service connections at Emmet Place we will help reduce leakage, improve water quality, and provide a more reliable water supply for customers for years to come. We would like to thank residents in advance for their patience and cooperation while these essential works are carried out."

The network upgrade will be carried out by Farrans Construction on behalf of Uisce Éireann and is expected to be complete in late autumn.
