Works commencing in Dunboyne to protect and strengthen local water supply
Uisce Éireann is commencing a €7 million upgrade of the water infrastructure in Dunboyne, Co Meath to support future growth and development in the area and provide a more resilient supply to homes and businesses.
These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s Growth and Development Programme, with almost 3km of water mains to be installed from Monday, 15 June.
This project is being delivered to support social and economic growth, including planned residential development. It will increase the capacity of the network to deliver reliable, sustainable, high-quality water services and will provide a more resilient supply to customers.
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne, TD, welcomed the €7 million investment in Meath.
“This is positive news for the county but particularly the community of Dunboyne. Upgrading the water infrastructure in the area will ensure the infrastructure needed to support the area’s development,” he said.
“Public water and wastewater services is essential to facilitating housing delivery as reflected in our new Housing Action Plan, Delivering Homes, Building Communities. Continued investment is also essential to sustain and improve existing water infrastructure in local communities. This project will provide critical capacity to enable new homes and serve the needs of the community.”
Michael McManus, Programme Manager, Uisce Éireann, welcomed the progression of the works in Dunboyne: “This project is being delivered to support existing and future social and economic developments within the community. It will improve the supply capacity of the existing water network in the area, improving performance and reducing demands on the current network,” he said.
“We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and work crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works may cause,” Michael added.
The works involve the installation of approximately 3km of water mains between the connection point on the R147 near Kilsaran, crossing underneath the M3, running south-east on Pace Road, through private lands to the R157 Parkway roundabout; It will then run south-west on the R157 where it will terminate at the roundabout junction of Summerhill Road.
The works will be carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by GMC Utilities Ltd. and are expected to be fully completed by June 2027.
The works may involve some short-term water interruptions, and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions.
