Works continue to repair burst on major trunk main in north Dublin

Uisce Éireann crews worked through the night to repair a significant burst on a major water main in north Dublin and are continuing to carry out further repairs following a subsequent burst this morning. 

Customers in the following areas maybe facing disruptions to their water supply: Baskin, Kinsealy, Balgriffin, Belcamp, Clonshaugh, Stockhole, Coachman’s, Cloghran, Corballis, Turnapin, Dardistown, Airways Industrial Estate, Royal Oak and Santry.

Parts of the following areas may also be experiencing reduced pressure as the repairs continue: Clonshaugh Road, Clongriffin, Baldoyle, Portmarnock, Bayside, Sutton, Stapolin, Kilbarrack and Howth.

The repair is complicated due to its size and proximity to the M1 motorway. It is expected that the second repair will be completed by midnight (Saturday).

Tselopile Tlou, Water Network Operations Manager, Uisce Éireann, said: “Our crews successfully completed the initial repairs overnight. Unfortunately, a subsequent burst occurred this morning. This second repair is again complex due to the size of the burst and its proximity to the M1 motorway. To support customers alternative water supplies in the form of tankers have been deployed to two locations – Santry Park and Bayside Shopping Centre.”

The water tankers at Santry Park and Bayside Shopping Centre are in place. Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tanker and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure

Uisce Éireann is currently carrying out urgent repairs following a significant burst on a major water main in north Dublin which could lead to disruptions to supply overnight in some areas and reduced pressure in other areas.

 

Areas that may face disruption to their supply include Baskin, Kinsealy, Balgriffin, Belcamp, Clonshaugh, Stockhole, Coachman’s, Cloghran, Corballis, Turnapin, Dardistown, Airways Industrial Estate, Royal Oak and Santry.

 

Parts of the following areas may suffer reduced pressure as the repairs are carried out: Clonshaugh Road, Clongriffin, Baldoyle, Portmarnock, Bayside, Sutton, Stapolin, Kilbarrack and Howth.

 

A crew is currently on site, and it is expected that works will continue throughout the night before supply is returned early tomorrow morning.

 

Tselopile Tlou, Water Network Operations Manager, Uisce Éireann, said: “The repair is being conducted as quickly and as efficiently as possible but is complex due to the size of the burst. We understand the inconvenience an unplanned outage can have on our customers and appreciate their patience as we work to return normal water supply as quickly as possible.”

 

Once water is restored, customers may experience temporary discolouration as the network refills. If this occurs, Uisce Éireann recommends running the cold kitchen tap until the water runs clear. 

 

Following repair works, it typically takes three to four hours for normal supply to return to all customers as the network refills, particularly for those on higher ground or at the end of the network.
